My awareness of and passion for working with wood began at an young age.
Some of my fondest memories are of chopping logs and kindling with my grandfather for hours on end. Learning all about the different characteristics in each piece of timber we split I quickly came to understand the unique properties of this magical material.
Growing up around farms watching, and later helping my father maintain all kinds of agricultural machinery gave me an early taste of how important both technical knowledge and creative thinking are in solving practical problems.
Having access to a workshop gave me an opportunity to learn the basics and by 13 I knew I wanted to earn my living from woodwork. I began making things for people like letter boxes and hutches, doing general odd jobs for neighbours and even finishing an oak floor with an industrial sander at just 14. I also really enjoyed the technical drawing element in my school Graphics lessons, something that continues today, being a foundation of the design stage of each commission.
Whilst at school I went to work for a local cabinetmaker on weekends, which I loved. On leaving school I went to Earsham Hall where, amongst all kinds of everyday tasks, I got a taste of what it meant to be in a professional workshop assisting with kitchens and pine furniture. During this time I qualified with a ‘City and Guilds 555’ in furniture making at Norwich City College.
At 19 I started working for Simpson of Norfolk as a cabinet maker making Georgian style furniture in a busy and growing company. It was here I really started to sharpen my skillset.
In 2000 I made the leap and started my own business giving me license to realise full projects from concept to installation.
25 years on and I’ve delivered a broad scope of wonderfully different, premium quality woodworking projects for my customers both locally and across the UK.
My appreciation for beautifully designed bespoke fine furniture bleeds into the craftsmanship I apply to the kitchens, interior joinery and fitted storage that so many of my customers trust me to create.
